CBD: A Beginner’s Guide

Welcome!!!

Today is a HUGE day for Young Living! Thanks to a partnership with Nature’s Ultra, CBD is officially part of the Young Living family!!! With CBD becoming a household name, I wanted to share some basic information to shed more light on the topic.

*** DISCLAIMERS ***

• I cannot treat, diagnose or cure you, and the information you will read here is for educational purposes only. I am here to help you learn what CBD oils are and how you can incorporate them into your life.

• Most of the information in this post comes from an online class that I took on the topic, which you can access HERE ! Thank you Brittany Bollard for allowing me to share your findings!

• As always, I highly encourage you to continue to do your own research, and consult with your healthcare provider (one that is educated around the subject).

• We do not know everything about CBD yet, so you are encouraged to use it responsibly.

• Remember that you are responsible for your family’s health. This post includes holistic alternative ideas, not medical treatment.

Let’s BEGIN!

1. What Is CBD?

“CBD”, short for cannabidiol, is a chemical compound from the cannabis plant. It is a naturally occurring substance that is used in products like essential oils, to impart a feeling of relaxation and calm. Unlike it’s cousin tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), it is NOT psycho active. Meaning, you won’t get high.

2. Is CBD the same as MARIJUANA?

No, IT’S NOT POT. The cannabis plant is made up of two main components: CBD and THC. While CBD is taken from the same cannibis plant as THC, it lacks the psychoactive and mind altering effects. Again, NO you will not get high.

By the way, as long as you are buying CBD with NO THC (i.e. Nature’s Ultra) CBD will NOT show up on a drug test.

3. How does CBD work?

Nature’s Ultra breaks it down in bite sized pieces HERE

Basically, CBD primarily interacts with your body’s Endocannabinoid System (ECS).

The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) regulates processes in the body such as appetite, pain, mood, memory, peripheral nervous system, and more.

Endocannabinoids and their receptors are found throughout the body: in the brain, organs, connective tissues, glands, and immune cells. In each tissue, the cannabinoid system performs different tasks, but the goal is always the same: homeostasis (stability and balance in the system).

4. Is CBD legal?

Thanks to the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill, zero THC CBD is not illegal in any state in the USA. According to federal law, it is legal in all 50 states. Although some states have tighter laws, I urge you to check.

You can travel with it within the US, and it is becoming easier to find. That being said, make sure you are using a trustworthy brand with evidence based research. Especially one that stands behind sourcing and science, like Nature’s Ultra and Young Living.

Side note: The US Government even holds a patent on CBD. Yes, it is true. Patent (#6,630,507) is held by the United States government showing the true potential of CBD.

5. What are the benefits of CBD?

While CBD is still being actively researched, there are thousands of clinical studies that have shown the benefits of usage. PLEASE NOTE, THIS IS NOT A STATEMENT THAT CLAIMS TO TREAT OR CURE ANY OF THESE CONDITIONS, AND I STRONGLY URGE YOU TO DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH.

221 Studies: Cannabidiol displays anti-seizure properties

533 Studies: Regulation of nausea and vomiting by cannabinoids

1784 Studies: CBD suppresses pain

1168 Studies: CBD improves brain function

295 Studies: CBD improves sleep

2042 Studies: CBD fights cancer and tumors

1368 Studies: Cannabidiol protects from inflamation

413 Sudies: Anxiety relief with CBD

802 Studies: CBD helps fight neurodegenerative disease

What about my anxiety—can CBD help with that?

CBD might be worth trying to manage symptoms of anxiety. “[CBD] tells your body to calm down and reminds you that you’re safe,” Dr. Chin says. “It mellows out the nervous system so you’re not in a heightened ‘fight or flight’ response,” she says, so people with anxiety may find it helps them feel more relaxed.

Still, one of the biggest misconceptions about CBD is that it’s a wonder drug. “A lot of times people think CBD is a cure-all, and it’s not,” Dr. Chin says. “You should also have a healthy lifestyle with plenty of exercise and good nutrition—CBD is not going to fix everything.”

6. Does CBD work right away?

For some people, results are immediate. For others it may take two weeks to a month to notice anything. So it’s important to be patient when starting to take CBD. A lot of people give up too soon, or don’t use a dose that is appropriate. Just like essential oils, you have to find what works for you. CONSISTENCY IS KEY.

It is very important to remember that a dose that works for one person might not work for the next. The period of time it takes for the CBD to take effect may vary as well. Just as people react differently to medications or even essential oils, we all react differently to CBD as well. Be patient, experiment while listening to your body, and you are likely to get the benefits you are looking for!!

7. Where can I buy CBD oil?

Young Living via Nature’s Ultra!

Let me start off by saying that not all oils are created equally!! When they are not planted, harvested, distilled, or bottled properly (think synthetics + fillers being added in) the benefits are lost. We’ve all heard the term, you pay for what you get. If you’re buying an oil for cheap off the internet, likely you’re not getting the same benefits as you would an oil that was made properly.

Under Young Living’s Seed to Seal promise, there is complete accountability for sourcing, science, and standards. The entire process from planting the seeds, harvesting, distillation, bottling, distribution is controlled. Read up more on it HERE

Young Living is the world leader in essential oils, pioneering the modern-day essential oils movement for 25 years. YL provides more than 600 essential oil and essential oil-infused products to more than 6 million households across the globe.

When sourcing a CBD partnership, this same level of quality was most important. Young Living has been working with Nature’s Ultra because of their paralleled commitment to pure, high-quality products.

10. What essential oils from the starter kit, or outside of the starter kit, pair nicely with CBD?

In collaboration with Sunday Scaries, here are some essential oils, you can use with CBD. Sunday Scaries writes articles that mainly focus on relieving anxiety and stress from professional, moral and financial hangovers, through various strategies including the use of CBD.

Lavender

“One of the primary reasons that otherwise healthy people are turning to CBD is because of insomnia. Nobody wants to have to deal with a hectic job on a poor night’s sleep and CBD oil has been found to enhance your ability to fall asleep and, most importantly, stay asleep for the whole night. Lavender essential oil has also been used since as long as we can remember to promote relaxation and improve sleep, usually through topical application or via an infuser. Out of all of the essential oils available, lavender seems to be able to combat pretty much everything from stress and anxiety to eczema and sunburn and it is for this reason that it pairs perfectly when used alongside CBD. If you are currently using CBD balm to treat a skin condition, then try adding a few drops of pure lavender oil into the mix—not only will you smell great, you will feel great, too.”

Lemon

“Although most people associate CBD oil with sleep and relaxation, it can also be used to enhance mental clarity, concentration, and the overall improvement of your energy levels … You can add a drop of lemon oil into your CBD tincture…”

Eucalyptus and Jasmine:

“CBD has been hailed as having potent anxiolytic effects and a recent study has actually proven that it can successfully combat social anxiety and while it is perfectly capable of flying solo in order to treat feelings of stress and panic, if you combine with an essential oil such as jasmine or eucalyptus, the effect is thought to be faster acting and longer lasting, as reported by current users of this harmonious blend. Eucalyptus oil has a soothing effect, thanks to its powerful minty fresh smell and it also induces a sensation of clarity. When you consider how easy it is to lose yourself in the overwhelming sensation of an impending panic attack, you will likely agree that clarity is key when it comes to navigating an internal storm. Jasmine is another excellent natural weapon for calming the nerves and it is one of the few essential oils that are capable of helping you to relax without inducing feelings of sleepiness … Breathe them in deeply when you need relief or, alternatively, use a diffuser to fill your home or office with the delicious scent.”
